Marcus Rashford Claims : I can take free-kicks like Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford claims he can take free-kicks like Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo – but says he’s yet to show supporters. 

The 19-year-old’s rapid rise to fame has seen him become a first-team regular at Old Trafford and he’s even been afforded the responsibility of set pieces.

Rashford set-up Marouane Fellaini to head in in United’s 4-0 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday but he’s only scored with one direct free-kick in a red shirt – during the side’s 1-0 win against Celta Vigo last April. Ronaldo became well-known for his stunning free-kick technique during his six years at the Theatre of Dreams and Rashford says – although their normal techniques differ – he can take them like the Portugal international.

‘No, it’s actually a different technique,’ said Rashford, referring to his goal against Celta. ‘I can do it like he does it but I haven’t done it yet.’

Rashford has six goals in 13 appearances for club and country this season and he’s linked up with his international team-mates for England’s World Cup qualifiers with Slovenia and Lithuania this week. The teenager was England’s match-winner in their 2-1 win against Slovakia in September and is likely to start against Slovenia.
