Nemanja Matic is set to miss Manchester United‘s clash with Arsenal at the weekend, according to reports. The 29-year-old was forced off in the 54th minute of United’s 4-2 victory over Watford and is in a desperate race to be fit for the side’s the trip to the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.
Matic had to leave the field with a muscular injury and, according to The Mirror, the Serbian midfielder is unlikely to return in time to face the Gunners.
Jose Mourinho will be desperate for Matic to recover quickly, with the Red Devils facing CSKA Moscow and Manchester City following this weekend’s match.
The ex-Chelsea star has undergone tests and is now understood to be targeting the Mancunian derby for his return.
Mourinho feared the worst when Matic asked to be replaced at Vicarage Road.
‘We lost stability when Nemanja Matic had to come out but the important thing is the three points,’ Mourinho said after United’s victory.
‘For Matic to tell me he wants to be replaced, he does not do that if it is nothing important. ‘It is muscular.’
